Duotone / Duochrome[]
Like iridescent, Duotone / Duochrome is primarily one colour but another also then when light hits it. Light and movement play a role in duotone or else the primary colour will be dominant. Since duotone tends to be achieved with shimmer shift it is sometimes harder to see the shift in a still photo.
Also Duotone in makeup vs. Duochrome in nail polish show differently. A close up on the eyeshadow show less of the duotone effect but nail polish shows it more or the same.
“ | Multitone or Multichrome is very similar, however, there are more than two distict colours present. | „ |
Iridescent[]
Iridescent as a colour has depending factors: If there is a base colour present, the size of sparkle/glitter, the density of shimmer/shift and light/movement.
If a colour has iridescent as a texture it is still primarily the colour then when light hits it has dimension of colours but when iridescent is the colour it is pretty much a sheer white or transparent and the iridescent colours depend on how the light hits it. If the iridescent colour is layered thick, the sheer white appears more white or if there is another colour base more that colour.
The size of the sparkle and/or how compact the shimmer shift is— is another factor. The bigger and more intense the iridescent the more dimention and colours will be seen. The finer and/or less dense the shimmer or shift is the more it appears to be a luminous sheen or glow and less multicoloured dimensions.
The most visually iridescent colours are when there is no other base colour overcasting it, there is glitter and/or sparkle, shimmer and shift all present. Light is then— should be hit at many angles even when the light or the surface isn't moving.

Pink vs. Purple[]
Cool Pink vs. Warm Purple may depend on lighting, how strong the cool or warm undertone is, depending on the light and colour shifts in the pearl, shimmer or glitter that can make changes in the colour.
Cool Pink or Warm Purple? When a light or light-medium shade they are often referred as mauve, mauve-pink or even rose. When a bright, bold or medium shade they are often referred as berry or raspberry colours, magentas and fuchsias. However, is it pink or purple? is interchangeable or even debatable to opinion.
Duotone Pink-Purples or Purple-Pinks? Some cases these are interchangeable and often are made Duotone or almost duotone-like and depending on the light and colour shifts can make changes in the colour.
“ | Since the colour spectrum is very close for the purposes of this wiki Berry, Raspberry, Magenta and Fuchsia should be in both the Pink Category and Purple Category. | „ |
Purple vs. Violet[]
If the colour seems warm, pink or red undertones— it tends to be considered Purple. If the colour seems cool, blue or silver-grey undertones— it tends to be considered Violet. These colours can be tricky to decipher if too pale, too dark or with Shimmer Finish / Pearl Finish or Shimmer or Shift texture.
Duotone Purples and Violets, some cases these colours are often is made Duotone or almost duotone-like and depending on the light and colour shifts can make changes in the colour.
Pale Purples and Violets often fall into the Nude Category if too pale or desaturated (Pinks, Mauves, Taupes, etc).
Aubergine and Eggplant range tend to be the darkest but often fall into the Red Category or Blue Category if too dark (burgundies, wines, midnight blues, etc).

Colour Shades[]
For the purposes of this wiki Nail Polishes have been also categorized by Shade. Here are some examples of the ranges we consider when assigning a Shade to a product. Accuracy on this Wiki is at a "best guess" start and updating as comparing and checking other sources.
Soft-Lights[]
Softest pastels, palest nudes, pale sheers, whites, lightest metallics and reflective iridescents.
Lights[]
Pastels, light nudes and highly reflective light metallics.
Light-Brights[]
These are considered both in the light range and the bright range. Brighter Pastels, lighter neons and highly reflective bright metallics.
Brights[]
Brights and neons or fluoresces, colour at it's truest form or brightened further with a bit of white or light reflective particles. Bright whites will be both under brights and soft lights.
Bright-Mediums[]
These are considered both in the bright range and the medium range. Bright-Medium or Bold, is when colour may still be at it's truest form but is not considered a neon. Usually the primary colours at their true form such as red and blue might be more in this range.
Light-Mediums[]
These are considered both in the light range and the medium range. Slightly muted colours, midrange nudes and medium reflective metallics.
Mediums[]
This is the range where some colours get muted; pinks should be in the rose, mauve to pink-red range.
Medium-Darks[]
These are considered both in the medium range and the dark range. So double checking nail swatches online or on the nail in real life to confirm between various lighting situations and image quality can assist.
Darks[]
Most of the darks displayed may look lighter because they have a pearl finish or shimmer present and the light is catching the colour but when on the nail the colour only really shows when reflecting light. Black naturally is considered a dark.
